Proposed Minor Changes to the School Day7 January 2025 (by admin) |
Details of how parents / carers can give their views regarding proposed minor changes to increase the length of the school day for all pupils.
Following discussions with our school trust, our governors and our staff we are proposing making some minor changes to the length of the school day from Monday 24th February.
The first proposal is to extend the EYFS and KS1 day by five minutes to 3.10pm
This extension to the school day of EYFS and KS1 by five minutes will bring us back in line with the recommended guidance from the Department for Education.
We made some necessary changes over the pandemic to the times of the school day – and these were addressed in KS2 to return them back to near ‘normal’ however this was not rectified in EYFS / KS1.
Whilst this is only a minor change in terms of the end of the school day it will add up to a significant amount of extra learning time over a week (25 minutes extra learning time) and therefore over a year increase children's overall learning time by a considerable amount.
During the pandemic we also separated KS2 finish times to 3.10pm for Y3 and Y4 and to 3.15pm for Y5 and Y6 – this was done to reduce congestion on the school site but also to reduce congestion in the local area.
The proposed change to the EYFS / KS1 day gives us an opportunity to return Key Stage 2 times finish times to parity so all KS2 year groups finish at the same time, whilst also keeping a sufficient gap between EYFS / KS1 and KS2 to keep congestion on the school site low.
The second proposal therefore is to extend the Y3 and Y4 day by 10 minutes to 3.20pm and the Y5 and Y6 day by 5 minutes to 3.20pm.
This will mean that all pupils in Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 will finish school at 3.20pm.
This change to the school day for KS2 will also increase their learning time in school.
The proposed start date for these changes is Monday 24th February 2025 (after the half term break)
A survey is now available for parents / carers to give their view on these proposed changes. This is available on the home page of our school web site or by clicking here.
